The city of Veszprém, in partnership with the Balaton region, is vying for the prestigious title of European Region of Sport 2026. One of the most significant milestones on the road to securing this recognition was the recent visit by the international jury of ACES Europe. During their stay, the delegation explored the region’s key sporting venues and engaged with the communities, professionals and decision-makers behind the bid.

Building on the regional cooperation established during the VEB2023 European Capital of Culture program, Veszprém is applying for the title of European Sports Region 2026 to continue community building through the language of sport after culture. The goal: to make a healthy, active lifestyle accessible to everyone.

The project brings together the local governments of Veszprém and the Bakony-Balaton region, with the participation of 100 settlements, aims to enable the region to bear this prestigious title in 2026.

We held regional information forums on the opportunities for joining the program, our objectives, and the planned program elements, which were attended by the mayors and family doctors of the individual settlements, as well as the heads of the relevant departments of the county government.

On May 9, Veszprém hosted the National Public Health Relay event.

On April 28, 2025, the Hungarian Society for Lifestyle Medicine presented the details of the Exercise on Prescription program in Veszprém.
