❓What does it mean that Veszprém and the Bakony–Balaton region have been awarded the title of European Region of Sport 2026?

This means that the title-granting ACES Europe organization has officially recognized the region's outstanding efforts in sports and health promotion, and in 2026, Veszprém and nearly 100 settlements in the Bakony-Balaton region will be able to bear the prestigious title of European Region of Sport title.

❓What are the basic principles underlying the sports program in the Veszprém–Balaton region?

The most important core values: community building, inclusion, accessibility, sustainability, and inclusiveness—these are the principles that guide efforts to increase people's daily physical activity.

The competition and the regional approach to sports development are motivated by four main principles:

  • Enjoyable exercise: exercise should be enjoyable and accessible to everyone, regardless of age, ability, or background.
  • Full performance motivation: striving for the best is important, even in everyday physical activity – the joy of personal development is what counts.
  • Sense of community: sport strengthens human relationships, builds communities, and brings us together.
  • Fair play and sportsmanship: we treat each other with respect, and through sport we learn honesty, fairness, and cooperation.
  • Improving health: regular exercise contributes to a longer, healthier and happier life.

❓Who coordinated the Veszprém-Balaton European Region of Sport 2026 application?

❓Who decided on the award and on what basis?

The decision was made by the Brussels-based organization ACES Europe, based on the submitted application concept, which was supplemented by their personal visit to the region. All of this makes it ideal for creating an environment that encourages an active lifestyle.
