Orienteering

The essence of orienteering is that participants must visit pre-designated control points in the correct order using a map and compass, but between checkpoints, participants are free to choose their own route to reach the finish line in the shortest possible time.

Orienteering is a sport practiced in nature, where competitors must solve both physical and mental challenges simultaneously. Orienteering is an adventure that requires no complicated equipment, yet offers a unique form of recreation: it brings people back to nature and a healthy environment while exercising, while developing decision-making and problem-solving skills.

In Márkó, Veszprém Orienteering Club organizes monthly open open to everyone. During these training sessions, participants can run on courses of a few kilometers in the forests and fields around the town, which are suitable even for beginners. For the youngest participants, we mark the course with tape to help them complete it, and those who don’t dare to set out alone can run in groups.

During training sessions, we use an electronic touch-point and timing system; with the help of a chip,their completion, and upon crossing the finish line, they immediately receive a printed copy of their results.
