Tour de Hongrie Finishes in Veszprém
Tour de Hongrie Crosses the Finish Line in Veszprém
It is a matter of immense pride that Hungary’s most prestigious cycling event, Tour de Hongrie, culminated this year in Veszprém—the very heart of the Veszprém-Balaton European Region of Sport 2026. Beyond marking the conclusion of a high-caliber international sporting event, the race's finale was a true community celebration. It perfectly embodied everything the Region of Sport stands for: unity, vibrant energy, and a deep commitment to sports. The international peloton did not have an easy task. World-class cyclists had to navigate the picturesque yet highly technical, winding, and diverse roads of the Balaton Uplands, punctuated by grueling climbs. As if nature itself wanted to put the athletes to the test, the weather showed every possible face—from gale-force winds and sudden downpours to unexpected bursts of sunshine.
What made this stage truly exceptional, however, was the incredible energy of the fans. It was uplifting to see so many people lining the roads to cheer on the competitors, despite the harsh weather conditions. With creative performances, homemade banners, music, and relentless encouragement, the enthusiastic crowds turned the race into a veritable festival. Once again, the region showcased its deep-rooted passion for sports.
As for the final results, we witnessed a historic moment: Jakob Söderqvist became the first-ever Swedish overall winner of the race. It was an added thrill to see our homegrown favorites excel as well. Attila Valter rode brilliantly to capture the white jersey as the best Hungarian rider, while Erik Fetter earned the red jersey for winning the mountains classification. Congratulations to the champions!
We will carry the momentum, inspiration, and sense of community experienced at Tour de Hongrie forward into the upcoming events of the Veszprém-Balaton European Region of Sport 2026. Our ultimate goal is to make everyday physical activity an accessible, shared experience for everyone.
Let’s hop into the saddle ourselves, explore the roads of the Balaton Uplands at our own pace, and experience the joy of movement together! See you at the next sporting event!
