Hoist the sail, grab a paddle, and head out onto the water!

So far, participants have spent nearly 4,000 minutes on the water so far as part of the "Right Here, On the Water – Our Lake Balaton, Our Sport!” series of events. Balatonfüred Kékszalag PORT is offering free sailing and kayaking tours, as well as SUP yoga classes, until mid-September to welcome interested visitors.

Since mid-May, hundreds of people have tried out water sports at Kékszalag PORT as part of the Veszprém-Balaton European Region of Sport 2026 program. So far, participants have spent a total of nearly 4,000 minutes on Lake Balaton—on the deck of a sailboat, in kayaks, or on SUP boards.

The goal of the program is to make regular water sports accessible and enjoyable for as many people as possible. According to the organizers’ experience, there is significant demand for this: many people return after their first visit, and an increasing number of participants are getting involved inactivities.

“It is a great pleasure for us to welcome so many people to our marina and show them the joys of sailing, kayaking, or even stand-up paddleboarding. We’ve noticed that anyone who’s attended one of our programs is happy to come back. I’m confident that the mission that led us to join the Veszprém-Balaton European Region of Sport 2026 program—namely, to encourage as many people as possible to take up regular water sports— and it seems we’re on track to meet it,” — said András Holczhauser, head of Kékszalag PORT marina.

The essence of Lake Balaton and water sports in a single moment

In the meantime, a Movie titled Our Lake Balaton, Our Sports, Our Movie short movie has also been completed for the program series. The one-minute short movie presents the three sports within a shared narrative and seeks to that Lake Balaton and water sports can offer.

“It was an exciting challenge to condense everything that happens in this program into a single minute. We wanted to present the sports as a whole, rather than separately, and to convey the sense of life that participants in these events experience. The rapid image transitions and cuts are meant to convey all the energy that we ourselves experienced during filming,” — said Kristóf Markos, head of 4K MEDIA STUDIO, the production company behind the short movie.

The program will continue through mid-September

Thanks to the high level of interest, the scheduled sailing and kayaking tours, as well as the SUP yoga classes, are almost fully booked. However, the organizers encourage interested participants to sign up for the waiting list, as in the event of a cancellation, the next applicants in line will be notified immediately, and at the same time, additional kayaking and sailing tours have also been announced so that as many people as possible can experience the thrill of water sports on Lake Balaton.

The “Right Here, On the Water—Our Lake Balaton, Our Sports!” water sports open house series is taking place as part of the Veszprém-Balaton European Region of Sport 2026 program and will run through mid-September, welcoming those who want to get active, play sports, and discover Lake Balaton from a new perspective.
