Exercise Breaks Records: European Week of Sport Has Begun
The European Week of Sport began on September 23, which this year offers a wider range of physical activities than ever before for those seeking active recreation. The #BeActive program series, running throughout September, set a record in Hungary: more than 1,860 events—most of them free—have already been added to the Activity Map, from more than 600 towns and villages. The selection is constantly expanding, so virtually anyone can find a form of exercise that suits them.
This year’s campaign slogan, “Be Active Your Way,” conveys a simple message: there’s no single right way to be active. You don’t have to be an athlete, and you don’t need to set big goals right away. It could be a brisk walk, running, biking, dancing, yoga, team sports, or even a form of exercise you’ve never tried before. The key is that it should be enjoyable and become a regular part of your daily routine.
This year’s record for the national campaign coordinated by the National Student, University, and Recreational Sports Association (NDHSZ) and this year’s record-breaking nationwide campaign clearly demonstrates the wide variety of opportunities available to you. More than half of the programs—981 events—are linked to the Hungarian and European Student Sports Day; in addition, sports clubs, Health Promotion Offices, local governments, and local communities have also joined in with numerous activities.
The Veszprém–Bakony–Balaton region has also taken action
The Veszprém–Balaton European Region of Sport 2026 is also exceptionally active. A large number of the region’s towns, sports organizations, institutions, and communities are offering programs throughout the month of September. The diverse events of the “Map of Movement” demonstrate that the title of “European Region of Sport”is not only a prestigious recognition but also an incentive for collective action.
In the region, sports are increasingly becoming a community experience: people of different age groups can exercise together, try out new sports, and discover places that can become a natural part of their active daily lives.
Nighttime exercise in Veszprém
One of the highlights of the European Week of Sport in Hungary will be #BeActive Night, held on Saturday, September 26, at the University of Pannonia in Veszprém. Taking place between 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., the “night of endless movement” welcomes students, families, young people, and older adults alike.
At the University of Pannonia sports fields, ActiCity, Erzsébet Park, and Erzsébet Promenade, there will be sports and exercise programs, community events, and activities you can try out will add variety to the evening. Admission is free, and the event is also part of the Veszprém-Balaton European Region of Sport 2026 program series.
